It\u2019s already October and trees are starting to show fall colors. So this will be a look back into what our summer was like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/cranefly.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/cranefly.jpg 450w, http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/cranefly-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I was finally able to get some decent photos of the cranefly orchids we have growing in our yard. The flowers are so small and they are hard to get into focus because the slightest breeze sets them swaying. The flowers last only a week or two. It\u2019s autumn so the single leaf for each plant has emerged. It will be green all winter until May when it will wither. And then in mid-summer the flower spire appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"329\" src=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/bug_zinia.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-265\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/bug_zinia.jpg 450w, http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/bug_zinia-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While\nworking in the garden one day Molly started taking photos of insects on the\nplants growing there. Molly has lunch outside unless it\u2019s too cold or raining. In the summer\nthe covers for the cisterns are always popular. This is Grey and Kitty Boy\nnapping on the small cistern near the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/tansy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-273\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/tansy.jpg 450w, http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/tansy-300x289.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tansy\njoined us last year. She appeared out of the woods almost starved, not full\ngrown, and friendly. Once she started to get some meat on her bones she began\nhaving some personality problems with the other cats, but that\u2019s mostly gone\nnow.
