Like last Friday. We got back from chores in town and a fire truck passed after we parked at my mom&#8217;s. And then other trucks. The woods were on fire.<\/p>\n<p>The fire was on the ridge west of us. It had been windy all day, hot and dry. A truck parking on tall grass managed to set it on fire and that was the start.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/fire_burning.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36\" alt=\"burned area\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/_d_improd_\/fire_burning_f_improf_350x217.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To fight the fire they brought in fire trucks from Poca, Sissonville and Bancroft.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sootypaws.net\/gws\/gaswell\/comments\/otherwells\/1288.html\" target=\"_blank\">A gas well<\/a> was in the center of the fire area. If the well had been venting to the tank at the time there might have been an explosion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/fire_trucks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35\" alt=\"fire trucks\" src=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/fire_trucks.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/fire_trucks.jpg 350w, http:\/\/sootypaws.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/fire_trucks-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By the time I got to the fire they&#8217;d already contained the fire and had begun the long process of mopping up. They used leaf blowers to clear a wide swath of leaves. A hot spot is in the background. On Saturday a crew returned to the site and burned leaves within the contained area so that there would be nothing to catch fire again.<\/p>\n<p>That was too close for comfort.
