Beginning in 2012 we held annual online workshops working with the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club. The last workshop was in 2014. On this website we have the materials used for the 2013 workshop which are perhaps the most accessible.
If you decide to go through the workshop, watch the videos and read the materials, remember that the regulatory environment is constantly changing with additions and changes to regulation being made. The Office of Oil and Gas has changed their website so that some of the online databases discussed in the 2013 workshop are no longer available or have changed in appearance. General permits for land application of waste for vertical wells and coalbed methane wells have been revised.
Still, the materials and issues discussed do provide a good framework for someone wanting to learn about West Virginia's program for oil and gas development.
