Well drilled in 1973
Producing formation(s): Marcellus Shale
Geographic location: latitude 38.481911, longitude -81.73503
This older well is on North Poca River Road.
This well was in a nicely vegetated and wooded area with a carefully constructed road. The metal was painted the usual operator colors. There was a beautiful huge old white oak close to the road that made our visit to this well memorable.
The road, even though it was carefully constructed, was deeply rutted close to River road. Up higher and in the woods the road was better drained and had no problems. At one time there was a steel cable gate for this well but it's not being used.
The operator's placard at the wellhead was faded so that only the last few digits of the API number was visible. The missing parts could be easily drawn in with a metal marking pen.
There was a hole in the ground at the wellhead which we believe should be filled with soil or stone. When we visited the remains of two deer littered the site, creating a macabre element.
As with other sites operated by this operator this was a clean site except for tires dumped by the entrance off River Road.

The well access road, where it is out in the open, is deeply rutted.

The site itself is pleasant. The wellhead is in the background.

The wellhead is extremely simple and painted the operator colors. The operator's placard is attached at only one corner.

Part of the remains of one deer. We visited the site at the end of November, right in the middle of hunting season.

The well access road is well designed with good drainage once it's in the woods.

The large white oak is about 25 feet from the road. If this were a modern well with a daylighted road this tree probably would have been cut.

Closer to the tree. It had so much character as it rose from its gnarled rootmass that we weren't able to even attempt to photograph it properly.
