The Shop leaf graphic

The original shop was 19 x 20. There is no framing for the walls other than a plate along the top and two 2 x 6 inches pressure treated boards attached at the ground. The siding is nailed to those and 2 x 4 inch nailers placed about 3 and 6 feet above floor level. Additional framing is put in, where required, for windows.

We’ve cleared the site for the building and have dug the holes for the posts. The pressure treated posts are then raised, dry cement poured in to secure them, and braced until more framing will hold the posts stead. The moisture in the ground over time will set the cement.

The posts are all set upright, this is shot facing north, along the east wall to the right. The posts aren’t entirely straight when we get them, so some nudging with bracing or a come-along helps to get everything in line.

After the posts are set up wall plates and roof plates are attached, tying everything together. The next stage is the rafters. Molly is waiting for the next rafter to set up on her right.
