This is a plugged well whose site is just east of 47-079-00731, just above South Poca River Road.
According to online records the well was drilled in 1956 and plugged in 1997.
When we visited the site, the well monument was standing in a shallow pond and its base was heavily corroded. The monument had the API number cut into it with a cutting torch and could be read either as 595 or 575.
There was an item of scrap well production equipment about halfway between this plugged well and 47-079-00731. It's impossible to tell to which well the equipment originally belonged.
State regulations require a monument for a plugged well that is 3 feet above the ground. The required API number shows more clearly in the photograph than when viewed in the field.
The monument was in a level clearing that formed a pond several inches deep.
