Summer is also a time of transition toward fall and the coming of winter. The undergrowth starts to wither in August. Many plants have started to set seeds.
These are the berries of the False Solomon Seal plant. Earlier in the season it has a mass of white flowers on the end of the stalk. The fruit changes color from white to pink to red and then falls to the ground in late August.
The berries are edible but have a strange "no taste."

Sunsets are still enjoyed through the trees. By October we can begin to see the ridges to the west as the leaves fall and open up the yard to the sky.

The Seasons
We’ve collected some photographs to show the four seasons in our woods.

Some photos taken during the late winter.
The
Great Morel Hunt
tells about Molly's and George's hunt for the Great
Morel Forest, a semi-mythical place briefly seen in Spring 2000.
We attempt to find it again.
