The shapes of winter are different than seen during other seasons. The landscape is visible and the trees, rather than leaves, dominate the view. We often walk at night under starlight without our flashlights. The paths have a silvery hue.
Most of the deciduous trees have lost their leaves by the beginning of winter. Only a few like Beeches and Oak hold the dead leaves until spring.
This is a picture of some Beech leaves taken at night.

Weather patterns change quickly during winter. We often have warm days followed by a storm and a bout of cold weather. The sky and its changing aspect is ever present in our lives during winter.

After a storm the mist rises out of the hollows like clouds. We can watch it climb the ridges.

The
Great Morel Hunt
